Donald Trump wants to ban Muslims from entering the United States? Well, it turns out lots of Britons want to ban him from the United Kingdom.

Trump detractors across the pond have started an online petition on an official government website asking British officials to block the GOP presidential front-runner from visiting. "The signatories believe Donald J. Trump should be banned from UK entry," the petition reads.

"The UK has banned entry to many individuals for hate speech. The same principles should apply to everyone who wishes to enter the UK," the petitions says. "If the United Kingdom is to continue applying the 'unacceptable behaviour' criteria to those who wish to enter its borders, it must be fairly applied to the rich as well as poor, and the weak as well as powerful."

By early Tuesday evening Eastern Standard Time, the petition was rapidly gaining signatures, already surpassing the minimum 10,000 signatures needed to get a formal response from the British government.

If at least 100,000 people sign — a goal that would seem likely at the current pace — the petition could be debated in the British Parliament.

Trump owns two golf courses in Scotland, which presumably would become off-limits to their owner if the petitioners are successful.

The petition is building support as British and other European leaders have been throwing around harsh words about the blustery billionaire. Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, slammed Trump, saying “the only reason I wouldn’t go to some parts of New York is the real risk of meeting Donald Trump.” And Ruth Davidson, the Scottish Tory leader, let loose a string of colorful terms on Twitter, calling Trump a "knotty-pated fool," among other things.
